Fenerbahce reject Emenike, striker set for China
West Ham flop Emmanuel Emenike may have no choice but to move to Asia in the summer to reignite his ailing career.
The Hammers manager Slaven Bilic signed
the 29-year-old forward on loan from Turkish giants Fenerbahce
until the end of the season during the January transfer window, with
the Premier League club having the option of making the deal
permanent.
But the former Nigeria striker failed
to repay Bilic’s faith as he ended the season without scoring a single
Premier League goal for the London side, who rely on a Manchester
United victory over Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final on Saturday to
secure their place in the Europa League next season.
Emenike’s only two goals for the
Hammers came in the same game against Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup
at Ewood Park on February 21.
Former Croatia manager Bilic, who has
been linked with a summer move for Marseille’s Michy Batshuayi,
Liverpool’s Christian Benteke and Arsenal’s Theo Walcott, is said to
be unimpressed with the South Africa 2013 Africa Cup of Nations
winner’s showing in the season and is set to send the player back to his
parent club in Turkey.
However, reports in the Turkish media on
Monday claimed Fenerbahce were willing to part ways with Emenike
after he fell out with fans and the board last season.
The former Russia-based attacker
previously signed for Fenerbahce but he left for Spartak in May 2011 in
the wake of a match-fixing scandal without ever playing a single game
for the Yellow Canaries.
Emenike, who remains under contract to
Fenerbahce until June 2017, could swap Europe for the Far East to sign
up for the Chinese Super League.
The former Super Eagles player, who
represented Nigeria at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, had revealed he
turned down big offers from clubs in China before moving to West Ham.
According to The Mirror, Emenike remains a target for Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua.
The report added that Shenhua, who
signed Obafemi Martins from American outfit Seattle Sounders in
February, had a offer worth £5.5m-a-year on the table for Emenike.
Struggling LaLiga club Real Sociedad
have also identified the former Al Ain striker as a prime transfer
target in the summer transfer window as the Basque side move to solve
their goal-scoring woes.
