In Kaduna: KASU staff joins strike over non-payment of salaries

The non-payment of over two month salaries to Kaduna State University staff has prompted the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) in the institution to embark on an indefinite strike against the fuel price increment, Pulse has gathered.

Even though the lecturers in Kaduna State University (KASU) had earlier planned for an indefinite strike over non-payment of salaries, sources told our correspondent that both teaching and non-teaching staff in the institution have not been paid for two months.

SSANU directive came at the right time. We were even planning for a strike action against non-payment of our salaries before this circular came. How do you want a civil servant to survive at this time of economic hardship without payment of salaries?” The source asked.
But a circular pasted by the Chairman, SSANU, obtained by Pulse stated: “I am directed to convey the resolution of National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of SSANU held on Wednesday 18 May, 2016 while deliberating on increase in PMS product.”
You are by this circular, directed to sensitize all members to embark on indefinite strike slated to commence on Wednesday 18 May, 2016,” the notice pasted by KASU SSANU Chairman, Lucky Kantoma said.
